GIL SCOTT HERON Give Her A Call (Peace go with you Brother)
Mr Heron In A Very Sentimental Mood, From His Spirits Album. So sad to learn of the death of one of my musical heroes, Mr. Gil Scott-Heron. Just when life seemed to be taking a positive turn for him, he was still riding high on the strength of last years critically acclaimed album "I'm new here". The album which reinvigorated his musical career, and put him back on track. Alongside Brian Jackson, listening to their albums these were the guys who really woke me up to the social issues of the day. With spoken word alongside great music they tapped into the frustration of the masses. They touched on subjects such as Apartheid, Nuclear Power, Illegal Immigration, World History, Slave Labour, US Politics, as well as Drug and Alcohol abuse. Gil Scott-Heron will always be remembered as the one artist who was "consistently" willing to expose "truths" behind social injustice and the political issues of the day. But let's remember beneath all the rage lay a tender heart that was also capable of sharing deep personal emotion, such as this gem. Gilbert "Gil" Scott-Heron (April 1, 1949 -- May 27, 2011) (Peace Go With You, Brother).
